Kate Cowcher

Kate Cowcher is Lecturer in Art History at University of St Andrews. She holds a PhD from Stanford University, an MA from the Courtauld Institute of Art and an MA from the University of Edinburgh. Her research broadly encompasses modernist arts in Africa, African art historiography, the cultural Cold War and international exchange in the Jet Age. Her work has been published in Art Bulletin, African Arts, Critical Interventions and Art History, as well as edited collections and exhibitions catalogues, including Among Others: Blackness at MoMA (2019) and African Modernism in America (2022). She is currently working on her first book, Beyond the Feudal Fog: Art and Revolution in Ethiopia, and has an article is forthcoming in Oxford Art Journal on African modernist art in the Argyll Collection.
