Restitution and Return
The discussion raises contemporary questions of restitution of cultural property taken during periods of colonial expansion.
Artist
Kader Attia is an artist who grew up in Paris and in Algeria and spent several years in Congo and in South America. His socio-cultural research led Attia to the notion of Repair, a concept he has been developing philosophically in his writings and symbolically in his oeuvre as a visual artist. In 2016, Attia founded La Colonie, a space in Paris to provide an agora for vivid discussion. Attia’s work has been shown in group shows, such as the Shanghai Biennial; the Gwangju Biennial; Manifesta, Palermo; the Venice Biennale; documenta, and in solo exhibitions at The Hayward Gallery, London, The Power Plant, Toronto; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; and KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin.
