Tadeu Chiarelli

Chiarelli received his degree in Artistic Education (1979), Masters (1989) and PhD (1996) from the University of São Paulo. He took courses in teaching in 2005 and 2010, also at the University of São Paulo. He lectures in undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Fine Art and is an advisor in the program the Department of Visual Arts. Chiarelli’s area of focus is Theory, Learning and Teaching Art; his research is in History, Criticism and Theory of Art; and he teaches in History of Art, Theory of Art, Art Criticism, Art and Photography, Contemporary Brazilian Art. Between 1996 and 2000 he was the Chief Curator of the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo. Between August 2007 and May 2010 he was Chief of the Fine Art Department at the University of São Paulo. He coordinates the Center for the Study of Art and Photography and the Study Group in Art Criticism and Curating in the Department of Fine Arts at ECA University of São Paulo. In April 2010, he was appointed Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art – University of São Paulo (MAC-USP). He has published books about art and art criticism in Brazil. Possui graduação em Educação Artística (1979), Mestrado (1989) e Doutorado (1996), pela Universidade de São Paulo. Prestou concurso para Livre-Docência, em 2005, e para Professor Titular, em 2010, também pela USP. Professor junto ao Departamento de Artes Plásticas, leciona na Graduação e Pós-Graduação. Orientador junto ao Programa de Pós-Graduação de Artes Visuais. Área de Concentração: Teoria, Ensino e Aprendizagem da Arte; Linha de Pesquisa: História, Crítica e Teoria da Arte. Atuação: História da Arte, Teoria da Arte, Crítica da Arte, Arte e Fotografia, Arte Brasileira Contemporânea. Entre 1996 e 2000 foi Curador-Chefe do Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo. Entre agosto de 2007 e maio de 2010 foi Chefe do Departamento de Artes Plásticas. Coordena o Centro de Estudos Arte&Fotografia e o Grupo de Estudos em Crítica de Arte e Curadoria, ambos no Departamento de Artes Plásticas da ECA-USP. Em abril de 2010 foi nomeado Diretor do Museu de Arte Contemporânea da USP. Tem livros publicados sobre Arte e Crítica de Arte no Brasil. Possui bolsa produtividade CNPq (Nível 1D), desde 2009.
