Shimon Minamikawa

Shimon Minamikawa was born (1972), raised, and presently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. While Minamikawa is primarily known as a painter, he creates work in a range of media including photography, film, and performance—work at once highly influenced by his present surroundings, particularly the environs of Tokyo, and, somewhat contradictorily, void of representational content. In addition to presenting multiple solo exhibitions with MISAKO & ROSEN (Tokyo), Minamikawa has exhibited with 47 Canal (New York), Capsule (Tokyo), and taken part in group exhibitions at the National Museum of Art, Osaka, and the Meguro Museum of Art (Tokyo). In 2013, Minamikawa will exhibit a collaborative work as part of the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo) Triennial Roppongi Crossing.
