Paula Kupfer

Paula Kupfer is an art historian, writer, and editor. She was previously the managing editor of Aperture magazine and photo editor for The California Sunday Magazine. Her writing has appeared in Contact Sheet, The Photobook Review, Harper’s Postcard blog, BOMB online, and Time LightBox, and she is a contributor to Hyperallergic and the Aperture blog. She was one of the specialists who selected titles for the book CLAP! 10×10 Contemporary Latin American Photobooks: 2000–2016, which was shortlisted for the 2017 Aperture–Paris Photo Catalogue of the Year Award. Kupfer has an MA in art history from Hunter College and a BA in journalism and Latin American studies from NYU. She wrote her master’s thesis on the photographs of Gertrudes Altschul and the Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante in São Paulo in the 1950s.
