María Clara Bernal

Associate Professor of Art History Universidad de los Ande

María Clara Bernal is Associate Professor of Art History at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia and Head of the Arts and Humanities Graduate School at the same institution. She received her MA and Ph.D. in Modern Art History and Theory from the University of Essex in the UK.

She is currently the director of the project Intellectual Networks: Art and Politics in Latin America created with the Connecting Art Histories grant from the Getty Foundation. She was part of the research group on Surrealism in Latin America (2009) at the Getty Research Institute. In 2007 she organized the exhibition Displaced at the Glynn Vivian Gallery, Swansea UK, on the subject of displacement and exile in contemporary Colombian art.
