Lin Tianmiao (born in Taiyuan Shanxi Province, China, 1961) is a multimedia artist who lives and works in Beijing, China. Lin graduated from Capital Normal University in Beijing (1984) and was a member of the Art Student League, New York, USA (1989). Working in installation, sculpture, photography, video, and other media, Lin creates works that often address female experience and engage with dichotomies including private and public, personal and cultural, male and female, natural and unnatural, and past and present. Lin is one of the first female Chinese artists to gain international recognition. Lin was a Martell Artist of The Year, National Gallery of China, Beijing, China (2006).
