Igor Shelkovsky (Chelkovski) was born in Orenburg, Russia in 1937. He studied at the Moscow School of Academic Art in Honor of the Year 1905 (Московское Академическое Художественное Училище Памяти 1905) from 1954 to 1959. In 1976, he emigrated to France, where be began the magazine A-Ya (a-Я) of which there are eight issues on Soviet nonconformist art and literature. Today, Shelkovsky lives between Moscow and Paris. He is member of La Maison des Artistes, a major association of French artists. His works can be found in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the State Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, The Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum in New Jersey, The Vienna Contemporary Art Museum, the George Costakis Collection in Thessaloniki, Greece, as well as in other museums and private collections around the world.
