Dipesh Chakrabarty is the Lawrence A. Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor in History, South Asian Languages and Civilizations, at The University of Chicago. He was a founding member of the editorial collective Subaltern Studies, a founding editor of Postcolonial Studies, and is currently a consulting editor of Critical Inquiry. He is the author of several books and articles, including Provincializing Europe: Postcolonial Thought and Historical Difference (2000; 2008) and “The Climate of History: Four Theses” (2009). Chakrabarty’s recent research has focused on anthropogenic climate change and its implications
for historical thinking.
