Alexandra Sankova

Alexandra Sankova is a graphic designer. In 2011 together with Nadezhda Bakuradze, Stepan Lukyanov, Valery Patkonen, she founded the Moscow Design Museum. Previously, she worked as the director of the non-profit organization “New Graphics,” which curated various graphic design competitions, projects and events. Alexandra also worked as Senior Advisor for cultural affairs at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Moscow (visual arts, architecture, design, fashion, e-culture). In 2003 she graduated with Honours Degree from Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts, major in Graphic Design. In October 2003 Alexandra represented the Russian Designers Association at the General Assembly of Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Organization) in Nagoya, Japan. In January 2004 at the Icograda conference in Istanbul (Turkey) Alexandra Sankova officially represented the “New Graphics” organization with her report on Modern Design Community and Design Education in Russia. Alexandra is a member of the International Designers Association, Moscow Association of Artists (poster section) and members of the expert commission of “Iridescent”, a magazine, focused on graphic design and published by Icograda – the international council of association of graphic design. Alexandra has lectured at the University of Alberta (Canada), the Nagoya Design Centre (Japan), St. Petersburg State University (Graphic Design Department) and Moscow State Arts and Industry University named after S.G. Stroganov, St. Petersburg State University, British School of Design. Since the founding of Moscow Design Museum Alexandra has been the curator and manager of a large amount of exhibitions: SOVIET DESIGN 1950-1980’s (2012), PACKAGING DESIGN. MADE IN RUSSIA (2013), COMMON OBJECTS: SOVIET AND CHINESE DESIGN 1950-80’S (2013), NEW LUXURIES: LESS + MORE IN AN AGE OF AUSTERITY (2013) , SPORTCULT (2014), AUTOPOSTER (2014), RUSSIA. BREAD. SALT (2015), TECHNICAL AESTHETICS (2015), RED WEALTH. SOVJET DESIGN 1950-1980 (2015).
