Berry Bickle

Berry Bickle was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. After studying fine art at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), she completed a postgraduate degree, majoring in painting. Bickle recently returned to Zimbabwe after living in Maputo for fifteen years.
She works in various mediums including installation, video, ceramic, contemporary dance, and photography. She has explored urban spaces to examine contemporary histories and the archival as subjects of her work, drawing attention to questions of race, geopolitics, power, and psychological violence. Bickle’s work has been exhibited worldwide, including in biennales from Havana (Cuba) and Venice (Italy) to Dakar (Senegal), Johannesburg (South Africa), and Bamako (Mali). Her work was also featured in Simon Njami’s renowned traveling exhibition Africa Remix in 2004–7.
