In this seminar Nelson Brissac reviews artists’ interventions into the city of São Paulo as part of his Arte/Cidade project, and reveals some of the issues that characterize its inhabitants’ everyday experiences and perception. Touching upon the 2014 World Cup and Brazil’s widespread urban protests, Brissac introduces extraordinary artist projects by Vito Acconci, Rubens Mano, Regina Silveira, K. Wodiczko, Maurício Dias & Walter Riedweg, Cassio Vasconcellos, Giselle Beiguelman, Carmela Gross, Laura Vinci, Nelson Felix, and José Resende.

In the discussion moderated by Pedro Gadanho, Curator of Contemporary Architecture, members of MoMA’s Latin America research group pose questions to Brissac regarding the relationship between public art projects and gentrification, tourism and conflict, as well as the use of photography, graffiti, and portable media in registering physical public space.
